As mentioned on the Where is everybody? thread, I've decided to start making these cute penguins. They are part of this wonderful quilt designed by Mckenna Ryan & here it is on her website www.pineneedles.com/SuperStore/SuperStore-Assortment.asp?AssortmentID=57One of my friends is making the quilt & I loooove penguins, so asked if I could make it. As she is always trying to offload her spare fabrics, she gave me what she had - 8 of the 19 fabrics needed & I bought the others last week. She is not reducing her stash very much as some pieces are tiny (a penguin cap! a penguin bow! penguin ear-muffs!) & she knows I'll be returning most of her fabric. And I'll be adding to it, too, as I'll give her bits of my new fabrics so when she gets to make this panel she will have most of the fabrics.

& here are the fabrics, from left to right - background (isn't it beautiful?) & borders & sky, black & cream for penguin bodies. The light blue includes a heap of other colours & will be fussy cut for a few of the pieces. I just realised I don't have any brown (oops, how could I miss the kangaroo paw stems when I have the yellowy flowers!) panel is rather big - approx 26" x 18", dunno where I'm going to put it. sandra Attachments:

Sandra, the colours are all so pretty. What fun you'll have working with them. All the animals on the big quilt are adorable. It makes me wish that I was a quilter. The site that jennieg linked says that the "Chrissy Down Under" Complete Pattern Set is $112.50 each. Is that for only the patterns or does it include fabric?

pattern only, rags - fabrics are extra. Today I started - I traced some patterns on a paper-covered fusible web & ironed it on to fabric - all black pieces & all white pieces are ready to cut out. (Fusible web is a man made fiber that will melt when heated. When placed between two pieces of fabric, the melting action of the web causes it to fuse the fabrics together. It is not woven or knitted. ) Attachments:

Sandra, I'm amazed at the cost of a pattern.
You're making good progress. We'll soon be seeing the little penguins appearing.

oops, it's been a loooong time since I did anything of my penguin panel. I could take a pic of the background - blue sky, green grass & inner border, but you can picture it yourselves!! When I get the second border on I can start adding the appliques as several encroach on the borders. I'll leave the background out somewhere I can see it (where??) to remind me to work on it. But I can show you 4 stockings made for 2 baby boys (both born in May) & their older sisters. Pressies were handed over yesterday & the mothers loved them. I look forward to pics of the children looking at their goodies on Christmas day. Attachments:

Sandra, The stockings look wonderful! The little ones could spend hours admiring the pictures on them, before wondering what is inside.
