The wattle is almost finished so I ironed on the next bits. Second penguin's beak did not work, so I'll re-cut it & attach it too. When they are finished I'll assemble the lid & other 3 penguins & go! Attachments:

It's exciting to follow your progress, it's really shaping up now. The wattle looks very good, you've added so much detail to it.

I like French knots - they don't need to be perfectly neat!

I've re-cut & buttonholed the beak, ear-muffs & scarf. Next thing is to start making 2 craft totes for young women in my class - one almost lost her current project as it was in a plastic supermarket bag & almost landed in the rubbish with similar bags of kitchen scraps, the other carries everything loose in her trolley & first caught her fingers on her scissors & then a few minutes later her needles, so I frowned at her & said I'd make her a bag, too. Her bag will be made from small samples of very classy curtain materials in blues & greens, the other bag is being made from a fat qtr of drawings of giraffes + 2 fabrics - ochre & brown for the sashings & lining. I also need to start a belated 70th birthday table runner for a singer who sings shanties & traditional songs. One fabric is the Australian toile \http://www.quiltersstore.com.au/_products/Fabrics+for+Quilting/Quilting+Fabrics+by+Style,+Colour/Toile+Fabric-1164.aspx - scroll down to Drover's Return, another has ships with sails (no link on line as the company now has a very different design under the same name) sandra Attachments:

There is getting to be quite a crowd of birds. The buttonholing really makes the lines stand out, but what a lot of work!

I enjoy buttonholing, it's relaxing - most of the time - except when I've gone too far & have to try to finish off a very short thread!
I'll be collecting money at a dance weekend so might take it with me. I normally knit between enquiries, but buttonhole & french knots can be put down just as easily.
I'm also working on a patchwork bag & might take the 2.5" squares & join them, as I have a very tiny craft iron which I can take with me!
Imagine the enquiries when dancers see me sewing & ironing!

here's a pic of some of the patches when I realised I needed more greens cos I had only blues left, so an appeal to the group resulted in lots of greens. Attachments:

A nice assortment of patches. Were you able to work on joining them together at the dance weekend?
