Sandra, thank you for the additional information. The projects in the links look like great fun to make. I'll try to catch my granddaughter in the morning and show her that little folded over box. (My son's family has come to town for a couple of nights.) I think she might like to make one. They are planning to buy a sewing machine tomorrow that she (and other family members) can use. She's almost 12 years old and loves to sew. She finished this small quilt in March Attachments:

What an interesting exhibition! So many different styles. I liked the concept of using a quilt as part of the background in an image that included a person.
My granddaughter got her sewing machine and took it home to use, Sunday, (a two hour drive from here), but not without a little difficulty. After she and her mother had looked at the machines on display and chosen a model, she located one in a box and refused to let anyone else carry it until her mother took the box from her to put it into their vehicle. The box weighed only as much as a box would. It was empty! Fortunately the customer service person in the shop believed her mother when she told here there was no machine in the box. The mistake was corrected.

please pass on to your granddaughter the following comments from members of my craft group - Thanks it's beautiful & Well worth boasting about cos I forwarded it with the comment I was boasting about a friend's granddaughter. They are all mothers & grandparents & often share/boast about their descendant's clever stuff. last week I found a shabby cushion cover at my local charity shop for $1, so gave it a soak in washing liquid (it was printed so I didn't want to use soaker), then unpicked it, applied fine batting & a back, quilted it & re-assembled it. Today I gave it to my Maori friend, Ani (kiwis are New Zealand's most recognisable bird & a kiwi is a New Zealander) owner of the green/purple/white shawl I made last year. She loved it. Attachments:

Beautifully done, Sandra! The cushion will have a wonderful new life, thanks to the loving care you gave it. What a treasure for your friend, Ani.
Thank you both, Sandra and Maeve, for the comments about Maiko's quilting. I'll pass on your craft group's comments, Sandra.

thankyou. I took it to Friday Craft group yesterday & Gail (only member present on unbearably hot day!) took it's pic. I won't be sending it to my sister until Wednesday group has seen it. All have watched it's progress ...
