when I was young after Auld Lang syne was sung we sand A guid new year tae ane an' a'
A Guid New Year to ane an' a'
A guid new year to ane an' a' An' mony may ye see, An' during a' the years to come, O happy may ye be. An' may ye ne'er hae cause to mourn, To sigh or shed a tear; To ane an'a baith great an' sma' A hearty guid New year.
Chorus A guid New Year to ane an' a' An' mony may ye see, An' during a' the years to come, O happy may ye be.
O time flies past, he winna wait, My friend for you or me, He works his wonders day by day, And onward still doth flee. O wha can tell when ilka ane, I see sae happy here, Will meet again and merry be Anither guid New year.
Chorus
We twa ha'e baith been happy lang. We ran about the braes. In yon wee cot beneath the tree, We spent our early days. We ran about the burnie's side, The spot will aye be dear, An'those that used to meet us there, We'll think on mony a year.
Chorus
Noo let us hope our years may be As guid as they ha'e been, And trust we ne'er again may see, The sorrows we ha'e seen. And let us wish that ane an'a' Our friends baith far an' near, May aye enjoy in times to come - A hearty guid New year!
Chorus

Maeve the earliest recording I could find is around 1908 so it is likely to be a fair bit older the tune it is sung to makes me think possibly Victorian . it was part of a group of songs sung in Glasgow(Possibly whole of Scotland} on Hogmanay they included Auld lang syne, a wee deoch and dorus by Sir Harry Lauder and we're no awa tae bide awa
Wee Deoch an Doris
There's a good old Scottish custom that has stood the test o'time, It's a custom that's been carried out in every land and clime. When brother Scots are gathered, it's aye the usual thing, Just before we say good night, we fill our cups and sing...
Chorus Just a wee deoch an doris, just a wee drop, that's all. Just a wee deoch an doris afore ye gang awa. There's a wee wifie waitin' in a wee but an ben. If you can say, "It's a braw bricht moonlicht nicht", Then yer a'richt, ye ken.
Now I like a man that is a man; a man that's straight and fair. The kind of man that will and can, in all things do his share. Och, I like a man a jolly man, the kind of man, you know, The chap that slaps your back and says, "Jock, just before ye go..."
Chorus
Meaning of unusual words: deoch an doris=Gaelic for a drink at the door, a last (?) farewell drink aye=always but and ben=a two-roomed cottage ken=know
