Global warming? Climate change? Just severely messed up weather? We've experienced extreme fluctuations in temperature this winter the likes of which I'd never seen in all the 47 winters I've spent in the Great White North. The past few days, temperatures have been as warm as +8C. Most of our snow melted. Last night it was +5C with heavy rains that left the frozen ground in my backyard covered in water that had no means to drain away. By Wednesday it is to be -19C. I'll have my own personal ice rink between me and the compost box. We now have lakefront propertyWith no snow to protect perennials and bulbs from the cold, I'm wonder what will survive the winter?

It's been the same here and in Iceland, rags. Just let's not have any falls on the ice!

We have a heatwave forecast for at least - at least! - the next week. Forecast for today is 38 deg, then 40 for tomorrow and Thursday. I am trying not to think beyond that, but it won't get cooler for a while.
Being inland we don't have to contend with the humidity that Sandra does, but due to recent rain the tentacles of The Muggy have even reached this far. Everywhere is lovely and green although it will dry off with the coming high temperatures, but it is also much more humid than usual.
Ah well. Nothing much we can do about it, is there?
It will be autumn in a few months......

So far I'm safe from the ice, maeve. I leave the house as seldom as possible.
Sandra and Jennie, I'd much rather have the cold than deal with the heat and humidity you have there. My internal thermostat is set for "cold climate". I find a coat is too warm to wear if it's much above 0C here, unless it's windy. Then a light windbreaker is needed.

I do wear a sweater if I'm going to be outdoors for more than a few minutes.

I'm sorry you got so little snow, Megan. I'd offer to send you some, but most of ours has melted. The rest has turned to grimy ice.
