On the road again. Saw these grizzlies near the highway, eating dandelions.

Yes, she was looking at me, but she is very, very far away. I have a good zoom on my little "point and shoot" camera. We saw another grizzly on the way home. She had two second-summer cubs with her and was only about a city block away on a hillside. She looked straight at me too and was slowly walking in our direction, making me a little nervous. In trying to get a clear view of her between bushes that were between us, I was having to walk farther and farther from my car, but I was certain I could get back into it in a hurry, if needed. Then I noticed that my husband had also left the car and was standing near me, taking shots with his camera. I wondered if he could get back to the car fast enough if she decided to come bounding down that hill? He's almost 80 and doesn't walk very well. We were about to go back to the car "in case", when the grizzly reared up on her hind legs, looked down the road to our left, turned and bounded farther up the hill with the two cubs close behind. They disappeared into the trees far away. We had no idea what had frightened her. These are the best photos I could get and still feel we would be safe. Grizzlies can be very nasty if they feel threatened.

On the way home from a very short visit with our son and family, after my husband's model show in Alberta, we drove through Jasper National Park. It was a good day for wildlife sightings. A group of Bighorn Mountain Sheep were foraging beside the highway. This Ram posed alone for me. A little farther along the road, two Ewes decided to stop traffic while they nibbled at something that they fancied on the pavement. High up on the rocky cliff above the road, four Rocky Mountain Goats (goat-antelopes) were digging away finding something to eat and knocking down small rocks in the process. This one was taking a look around for another likely spot to forage. Elk are plentiful in the park. The bulls are in the process of growing new antlers which are very small and covered with velvet at this time. Surprisingly, Elk cause more injuries to tourists than any other animal in the park. People will walk up very close to them to take photos or to pose for photos. Elk do not like that.

wonderful pics - more congratulations to you sandra Thank you. I love taking pictures of animals. We are very fortunate to have such an abundance in a "natural" park and in the "wilderness" areas that we must travel through to visit some of our offspring.

the rain has gone but the cleanup & replacement will take a long time. Many folks don't have insurance because they live in flood prone areas so insurance companies won't cover them. It's almost unbelievable taht housing was allowed along the beachfront - check out the drone footage - Collaroy beach & Narrabeen lakes - crazy coastal development
