LOL! My son-in-law is tall. He's standing on the left. My son is standing on a chair on the right.
I always laugh at quilt pictures that have feet, so I made sure the feet weren't showing. I didn't realize that fingers were showing.
That's why I try to take quilt pictures outside propped on a board leaning on a fence. But this time I had such short notice, and the weather was raining.

BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS ...
I turned a lamp over on Beth's blue and brown quilt and burned several holes in it! But.........I had enough material to remake a block on the top. And on the back I put an applique patch of the same backing material, so hopefully after it is quilted it will be "almost" perfect.
More good news. My son is engaged so I get to make another special wedding quilt. His fiancee was a French teacher before she became a counselor, so we're thinking toile. Any ideas folks? We're looking at an October wedding.
Also, a good friend just got engaged and I'd like to make her a quilt. Her mom says maybe neutral colors. Any ideas?
I'm going on a retreat (cabin in Tennessee) with my quilt guild in June. Looks like I'll have plenty to do.

Mary, Beth's quilt now has its first story to go along with it. Good for you for finding a graceful way to repair the damage. I'm glad you got the hot bulb off the quilt before a fire started!

I'm working on a blue Irish Chain quilt for my friend Lisa who is getting married in October. I can't decide if it should have a border or not. My son and his fiancee will also get married in October so that's another quilt. I originally thought toile, but she wants a black and gray Irish Chain. I'm completely stuck on this one. My only thoughts are a double Irish Chain with the gray outside the black to look sorta like a transparent blur, and then to back it in a black and white toile. hmmmmmmmmmm... this one is hard.

Not exactly. Notice how in the double Irish Chain there are diagonal rows of blocks, each row of blocks is three blocks wide. Usually (as in your picture) you put the light color in the middle of the row, and that makes the dark blocks stand out as a double chain. My idea is to reverse the positions of the light and dark blocks. I have an example on Pinterest, but the site has been down all day. Here's a similar picture in blues. threadtails.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/p1110038.jpg?w=500&h=509I saw some black marble material and some gray with flecks of black in it. I think they would be pretty together in a small project. But I just can't imagine an entire quilt in those colors. The toile backing, however, is a nice idea.

Here's the blue quilt on my design wall. I had to rework some of the blocks to take out a large scale print that just didn't play well with the others. Now I'm wondering about the striped material. hmmmmmmmm.... Attachments:

I see what you have in mind for the Irish Chain. It could be quite striking. I wonder how shades of gray, pattern, or the subtle use of an accent might spark some interest in it?
Regarding the stripe- yes, it "reads" differently from the rest. It also keeps the eyes moving, provides a sense of movement. Can you use that effect in your setting or do you not want it?

Good idea about shades of gray. Also, she said she liked turquoise for an accent. About the stripe...I put it in for a little sparkle, and it's in a smaller proportion than the others. But still...do you like it? Also, Lisa said she wanted light blue. This reads aqua. I wonder if a narrow border of the solid blue would tone down the greenish cast. I love pieced borders and am considering a folded ribbon border. Is that too much? (This has been so fast and easy I really ought to quit now!) www.kennykreations.com/prodimages/cr2.JPGThis is why I don't like to get too specific a request from the person I'm making the quilt for. It never turns out like they imagine. I just ask for general suggestions, and they always get specific.
