hmmmmmmmm....I lost a post.....again!
Jennie, hope your arm heals well and you'll be back to quilting soon. I checked out your tutorial on your blog - please don't take it down - and I intend to try it!
Joan, I hope you see this thread before you go to Disney World. For some reason my post didn't show up in the recent posts.

We are home, and we had a lovely time! Our son is well and happy. Only one thing went wrong - I had a fall and broke my left arm, which is not much fun. I have written a little about our trip on my blog this morning - bronzewombat.blogspot.com/Typing with only one hand is a bit slow....... Jennie, I'm sorry to hear that you broke your arm while on your vacation here. Do you have any observations to make about the Canadian Healthcare system? I read your most resent blog entries. I'm glad that you were able to do things in spite of your injuries. I hope that we'll see some of the photos that you or your husband took?

Rags, our experience of the Canadian health system was excellent. People at the hospital were great - they almost seemed to take it as a personal affront that I was injured! A few days afterward someone tole us that the hospital we attended - Scarborough General - was good with fractures, as so many people slip on icy surfaces and break bits.
Pics will be up in due course.

Jennie, I just had a look at bronzewombat.blogspot.com/ again. The quilted hanging that you made for your daughter in law is gorgeous! She must have been thrilled to have it?

She was! The pattern comes from The Quilter magazine, November 2004, that was passed on to me early this year. Sayward likes purple, and loves all things Halloween. The backing fabric is black with multi-coloured spider webs, I bought more than I needed and gave her the leftovers - she was thrilled as she hadn't seen it anywhere.

My broken arm is fixed, the cast came off on Friday afternoon so I have had two days without it, which is wonderful. Still need to wear a wrist brace for a while but that is so much lighter than a cast. Everything is very stiff, and the stiffness is slightly painful, but I had worse. That was one souvenir of my holiday I will be glad to see the last of.......

Jennie, I'm glad to hear that your arm has mended. I hope that the stiffness and soreness will soon go away. Will you be going for physiotherapy to help with the recovery process?

Yes I will. The doctor wants to see me on Friday which will be a week after the cast came off, and I think he plans to start me on physiotherapy then. I'm trying to use my fingers as much as possible in the meantime. Last night I managed to touch my index finger and the tip of thumb together! A small achievement, but an achievement nevertheless. I have put some holiday pics on my blog, pictures of autumn trees which I lurve.

Joan left for Florida on Sunday. I hope that she, her son and her granddaughter are all having a wonderful time there.
I just looked at the weather in Orlando. It will be sunny, +7ºC to +19ºC, not summer warm, but much nicer than being here at -5ºC to -15ºC, waiting for more snow to fall.

Time to add to this neglected thread. Tonight we're in an Alberta hotel, 800 km (500 miles) from home. Our eldest son's fiancee wanted to have a 40th birthday surprise for him. They drove about 280 km (170 miles) here, under the pretence of a weekend visit with one of our other sons and his family who live here. Our elder daughter flew here for the weekend with her family. We had the surprise and cake this evening at our son's house and have several group activities planned tomorrow. Everyone will return to their respective homes Sunday. On the way here, Thursday, we made a couple of stops to photograph birds. At one place we saw about 60 Sandhill Cranes, about a hundred Snow Geese and a couple of dozen Canada Geese At another stop we were greeted by two very friendly Steller's Jays. I'll be uploading pictures to this trip set as time allows. rags

Love that blue bird....it's gorgeous!
We were away recently for ten days, we went to a folk festival at a little town called Dorrigo which is on the edge of a rainforest - no wonder everything is so green, it hardly stopped raining while we were there - then drove to the coast for a few days before coming home. Even though we are retired it's good to have a 'holiday'.

jennieg, Retired people need holidays as much as anyone does. I hope that your festival was under cover? Was the weather any better at the coast?
I grew up in Vancouver, BC, which was built in a rainforest. It takes large quantities of water to maintain those big trees. I miss the big trees but I don't miss all the rain.
