Aside from watering and removing dead leaves from about fifty geraniums on various window ledges throughout the house, my gardening is on hold until about three feet of snow melts.
What have you been doing in yours?

Clearing up barrow loads of soggy autumn leaves in the wood, and bagging them for next year's compost.

The best job at this time of year is sitting indoors by a blazing wood burner and sifting through a pile of seed and plant catalogues and planning the year's gardening. Outdoors a gale is blowing and it's pouring with rain.

It's too frozen to do any gardening so I'm wrapping up warm and tidying out garden and outside sheds. A messy job, why do we accumulate so much rubbish, eg. half empty pots of paint that will never be used again, paint brushes in jam jars that once held white spirit, bits of machinery and pipes that were saved just in case they would be useful one day? Betcha if I throw them away they will be needed!

yes! everything has a use just after it is thrown. Once I had a little ball of left over plastic coated wires that I found after the electrician visited our office. So I scrounged them & kept them for years.
It was literally the day after I heaved them that I needed a bit & has to use a piece of twist tie wire - flat plastic covered wire was not as good!
For the last so many months Mudcatter have had monthly de-cluttering threads, some folks have done some serious de-cluttering, others have done smaller jobs, & occasionally I take a guilty read, & occasionally I more a few deckchairs. I will start cleaing a bit more when my scar is healed.
Then I can remove the 10 jigsaws & 2 bags of stuff for my friend's charity shop! And the 2 bags of books for the second-hand bookshop owner's consideration, & start on some of the piles of stuff that sit on floors (lack of storage) but they have all become lava flows instead of the neat mountain ranges they start out as.

There's a thread in the "Using this Board" section for experimenting with the features, should you wish to do so, before using them in posts: Trying things out Have fun! rags

It must be almost time for people to start planting seeds indoors for spring planting outdoors?
Soon, I'd like to top my geraniums and put the cuttings into water to root. My son will be coming through here on Feb. 20th, from Alberta on his way to university in Victoria, BC (where it is almost never winter as we know it.) I'll wait until after he's here because I'll need to put the cuttings in the bathroom he'll be using.

I'm thinking about new plants. I need more garden catalogs. Today I'll turn the compost pile, maybe find all the outdoor pots so I can start cleaning them and they'll be ready to plant later. Last year I used some water retentive polymers in the pots, and it seemed to make a difference. Our summer weather is so hot and dry that it's best to anticipate these things. Also, I need to try geranium cuttings again. My geraniums overwinterd well, but they could use a trim. They're not really leggy, but some are so large I'm afraid that when I put them outside the wind will break the longer stems. I learned from my "geranium saga" several years ago that I need a little bleach in the water in order to be successful in rooting them indoors.
