'Every stitch is a conversation': Unofficial knitting world record raises domestic violence awareness It seemed like a lofty goal — knit a piece 25 centimetres wide and longer than a whopping 2.4 kilometres. But knitters from across Australia have achieved double that and then some, making a 5.8km white ribbon. The effort was all in the name of raising awareness about violence against women, and it started when a small community on the mid-north coast of New South Wales was looking for a new way to engage people in the conversation around White Ribbon Day. One point that makes this huge effort more meaningful to my way of thinking: the idividual pieces will be taken apart from one another and re-joined to make many useful blankets, scarves, etc. for those who need such comfort. Well done indeed!

What an innovative way to raise awareness and include a wide range of people in a worthwhile project. I agree with Maeve, the plan for converting the knitting from a long ribbon into a variety of useful smaller items that the women can use, is very meaningful and practical.
