On Friday I'm heading overseas - my second ever trip, the first one was in Dec 1975! & I'm returning to the same place, Norfolk Island, with photo album in hand to take photos in the same places. The tour is bring led by friends who lived on the island for 5 years. Around half the people in the tour are friends of Don & Sue & we will have a great time. Images of the island When I visited the colonial era buildings were beginning to be restored & my pic of Quality Row can be compared with pics here more pics Attachments:

the only downer is a very sore hip & leg. I saw my doctor yesterday & got a referral for an X-Ray when I get back. I also have a prescription for strong (ie. use carefully) anti-inflammatories & finally took one & I feel wonderfull (not yet)
It will not be easy pushing my wheeled sports bag down 38 stairs early tomorrow morning - unless one of my worker neighbours is leaving for work or the gym.
back to pondering upon packing what I need.

I got back yesterday with 1009 photos + a heavy book Norfolk Island photography (photographer's website full of beautiful photos) + a thick jumper + some small stuff - a teatowel from . I've downloaded my photos & deleted 24! so far! Our tour was a history & shanties tour & here are 2 videos on the travel agent's website + a few entries about the tour. Pic shows why Norfolk Island pines did not fulfill Captain cook's idea that the Navy could use them for masts - the branches grow into as well out of the trunks! Second pic is of Kathy who is singing in one of the videos - her teenage daughter is one of the girls doing a traditional Island dance. Kathy is also singing in this video of traditional dance. Her song is in Norfuk, a mixture of 18th century English & Tahitian - Most Norfolk Islanders are descended from the Bounty mutineers & their Tahitian wives. Attachments:

Sandra, What a wonderful trip you had! How did your hip and leg fare with all the touring about? Did you need to use many of the anti-inflamatories?
Well done, taking so many photos! You likely have lots of empty room on your computer, please don't delete photos unless they are truly awful. Most can be spruced up a little, or cropped down to the important bits, with a simple photo editor.
That's fascinating how the branches grow inside the Pine trunk.
I'm away from home and my "real computer". I couldn't hear the lyrics clearly on my laptop to tell that the singing wasn't all in English.

wow! so I went looking for more pics & found this (allegedly 2016, but includes earlier entries) There were a couple of sculptures from this year in that lot. The rest must be last year's? They are all worth seeing, no matter the year.

Fabulous sand sculptures! We visited Parksville last November and it wasn't a nice day like that......it was freezing cold with horizontal gale-like winds. Not a nice day at all. However my friend and I checked out a local quilt store where something came home with me (and much more with her, we're both quilters), and also a very good bookstore where I found a book for our grandkid's shelf. he has several Canadian books from that trip, for when he is a little older.
