Well I am off to the Yukon again. I will leave on Fri with my son and grandson, they live in Whitehorse Yukon . Am packing up my cook books and wool as I keep busy filling two deepfreezes and knit or crochet while waiting for bread to rise etc. This is the first trip in the spring I have been in winter at minus 40 and in summer when the sun never sets, so will be interesting. Keep well and I hope to put up some pictures when I come back in June!~!

On April 30th, Mr. rags and I drove about two and a half hours to Barkerville, a reconstructed gold rush town. We wanted to wander and take a few photos before they reopen for tourists, May 15th. We expected some snow but were surprised at how much there was, just five days ago. The last of the snow in our town had melted a couple of days prior to this, (except where it was piled up by snow clearing operations). Walking carefully There are more photos, if you're interested. flic.kr/s/aHsjXaZjUdThe first three pictures were taken in the Town of Wells, which is less than ten minutes before arriving in Barkerville. Crews had been carving the snow out from the streets in Barkerville and hauling it away. I'm wondering if enough of the snow will be gone in two weeks time when the town is officially open? rags

We went back to Barkerville, September 6th, with my daughter-in-law and three grandchildren, to enjoy entertainment on "Cowboy and Drovers Weekend". I photographed this building for you to compare Apr, 30 with Sep. 6. Thank you, Sandra. I hope it's interesting for others to have a small window into my part of the world.

Rags, because we don't have winters like those we can have trouble realising just how severe they can be! Snowy pictures are very beautiful, we can admire them from afar because we don't have to live in those conditions.
On the other hand, last summer this town had its hottest temperature ever - 45.1 deg C on January 3. On that same day our friends in North Bay, ON had a temperature of minus 39 deg C which is a differential of more than 80 degrees.......now that's really hard to get my head round.

Jennie, I hope that I never experience 45.1 deg C. I don't know how you folks can survive in it. I love [looking at] the snow and don't usually mind the cold as we can either choose to stay inside a toasty warm house or bundle up and go out. There is nothing I could do to escape from heat outdoors. When it was 38 C here for a day or two we hid in the cool basement until it passed.
