Jennie, How sad that your plants took a beating in the fall and that you lost such a useful tree. Christmas Cactus usually seem to be able to survive. I hope that it will bloom for you again. Sandra, your window garden looks as if it is thriving. The light coming through the yellow curtains is so cheerful. This was the view, a week ago, through the window of this room where I'm sitting at my computer:

lovely cheerful view. do you have a pic of the same scene in winter? My computer faces the wall but it is a very interesting wall - postcards & pics & CDs with a doll cupboard to the right & my window is behind me. The elephant cards above my iMac are creations of this very talented artist Jennifer Skelly I saw the card "Life gave me music but I still want an elephant" at a festival & bought it to give to an elephant collecting friend, but kept it! I scanned it & red card with the sweep of tiny white elephants & sent her copies! Attachments:

There is no hole left by our dear departed tree, the blokes who removed it - sadly, it couldn't be saved - ground the stump off to just below ground level. When the remnants were being put through their big mulcher it smelt so good, Eucalyptus nicholii is also known as peppermint scented gum. There are a few roses in that garden, one was slightly beheaded when the tree came down but all (included the wounded one) are now thriving, perhaps they are enjoying not being shaded.
Every time we turn into our driveway I say to my husband "I miss the tree......." and I do.

You can see how much of the tree fell down. We live on a hill and this was taken from the edge of the road looking up, the house is our neighbours'. They told us they will miss the tree too, as it shaded their upstairs balcony on summer mornings.

The elephant cards are very cute! I don't know if I have the same view through my window in winter anywhere in my archives. A quick search on Flickr turned this one up. rags

What a lovely delicate colour. I'm sure it will be very happy there with its new family.
