Jantwo calls me when she needs clean paper towels beneath her and eagerly drinks her water and eats her food. She is bright-eyed and responsive, and has begun to gingerly change her position as needed. She gives her loud "Danger" trill when the wild birds fly by the window. She slept last night. So did I. Tomorrow I will see how much healing has occurred. Sorry- this isn't really a Gardening in 2014 post...but my chickens are among the brightest flowers in our gardens, and they eat many insects that would otherwise ruin our veggies.

Oh, maeve, it sounds as if little Jantwo is doing well. Reading your description of her behaviour brings tears to my eyes. I'm very happy for both of you. I'm expecting that you will see she is healing well when you check, tomorrow.
Don't worry about staying strictly "on topic", conversations evolve.

Good to hear. Jantwo seems to be a very resilient little hen. Do you expect that she will be accepted again by her flock?

Maeve, Those are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing them. It was interesting to see the photographer at work. I wondered if she was using glass. The photography is fantastic. It would be wonderful to have a macro lens like hers.

it was around 10 & the sun was shining into my bedroom thru the sheer white & partly opened thin sunshine-yellow curtains. When I pulled the curtains fully opened I grabbed my camera. Old photo of sun behind the curtains

Beautiful flowers, Sandra! It looks as if the Christmas Cactus will soon be covered with blooms.
The sun through the curtains is a striking shot. It looks almost like flames. That must be quite a sight to wake to on a sunny day?

I only wake to the sun if I've had a very early morning & have turned the alarm off before finally getting into bed.
The sun hits my north-facing window after 10am, & as I usually open the curtains a bit leaving a strip of sheer curtain showing before I go to bed I don't get the full effect.

My Christmas cactus doesn't seem to have buds yet. A couple of months ago we had an almighty storm, and the three-legged plant totem (which has six arms for hanging baskets) was blown over. Two flower baskets were ruined, and the Christmas cactus was given an almighty shake-up - I'm hoping it won't affect its blooming this year.
In the same storm we also lost a huge eucalypt tree in our front yard, it gave us welcome shade on summer afternoons. It was probably 20 years old and was about 30 feet high.
