A few weeks ago my son mentioned that his class had been commissioned to present four puppet shows to a preschool. They could earn a little money for a class field trip by doing this, but they had no puppets and buying six puppets would use most of the money they would earn. I scrounged through the rag box and my odds and ends for fabric, found some batting I'd removed from a new comforter when I'd used the cover fabric to make curtains to match another comforter, and bought one pair of the largest size of pantyhose at the Dollar Store. This is the result: Puppet family by diffuse, on Flickr I photographed the process and posted the photos in a set on Flickr: flickr.com/gp/diffuse/or5crQ/ If you click on "Detail", you can read the text under the images without opening each image. I sure hated to part with the little fellows when my son took them to school. My husband, sitting with the puppets for size comparison. The tallest are about 18 inches (50 cm) high. I modified some of the eyes after I took this picture. There wasn't time to change all of them before my son arrived to take them. rags

How charming, rags! I think you need to make some for yourself. The grandbabies would love them.

I love them. I second what maeve said --- the grandkids would love them. My granddaughters always give me the gray-haired avatar in games.

maeve and Mary,
Thank you.
The only grandchildren who are both young enough and near enough to play with any puppets that I might have, already have those puppets. Their dad is the teacher I made them for. His three children, (ages 6, 9 and 11), all attend the band school on the reservation, where he teaches. My grandson is one of the students in my son's class who will be performing the puppet plays.
Our eldest grandchildren will be 24 years old in February and March. Where did all the years go?
Mary, I wonder why your grandchildren would give you the gray-haired avatars? ;D

I love them
I'm sending the pics to a primary (elementary) school teacher who is looking for ideas for her school fete.
