My poor garden has been under water for nearly a month now. I managed to plant onions, cabbages, lettuce, beets, carrots and radishes on the one day that it wasn't muddy. Last week the onions were not rotten, but after another week of rain, they may be lost for this season!

Mary, such excessively wet springs are so frustrating. How have you managed in this very recent spate of tornadoes? Are you ok? Please take good care of yourself. Spring is finally making an appearance here. The Star Magnolia is coming into bloom, with daffodils, hyacinths, and numerous little bulbs in full flower. The ground is still too wet to work in the vegetable garden. Attachments:

Thanks Maeve, we're OK here.
I posted several years ago about the 1974 tornadoes, the largest outbreak in history. I was living in Louisville just a few miles from some of the devastation from one of those tornadoes. We had the warning sirens go off twice in the days before this last outbreak. But there were no touchdowns in our county. Then just prior to these tornadoes, we knew the conditions were right for the "super cells" to develop. That means that the jet stream feeds into a turbulent mix at just the "right" time. Needless to say, we were watching the news, but the only Kentucky activity was south of us. I didn't realize how bad it was in Alabama until an entire day later. For some reason the news seemed to be slow getting out.
My poor garden is still mostly under water. We've had a stalled rain system for nearly a month!
The Kentucky Derby is next Saturday, so we're all betting on the "mudder."

Hello Mary, Do you think that anything you planted will survive after being so wet so long? If the weather improves might you be able to start again? You must have a much longer growing season there than we do.
Maeve, Beautiful flower!
Our last snow melted May 3rd. Some of my neighbours still have snow in the shady parts of their yards. The crocus that recently emerged from the snow are blooming. Those that started sooner are finished. I have one tulip in bloom and many in bud.

Mine? These were the first to bloom: I'm away from home (see my post in the members only section). If I have time. I'll see if there are any flower photos on the jump drive I brought along.

Hi, Sandra. Yes; very odd lighting that evening. The cherry, pine, and maple trees all did look purple, and the Quail daffodils and green grass were glowing.
