Mary, it looks wonderful! It's fascinating to look at all the different fabric pieces in it.
The Hawaiian quilt hanging sounds as if it will be interesting to work on. Are there patterns for the elements or will you design them yourself?

I'll make my own design so it will be unique: a combination of Hawaii and Kentucky.
I've seen lots of pictures on the net, and many look similar because of the same plants and flowers. I'll get a book to help me with the orchid design. I'll need one that is easy to applique.

I'm making some progress, slowly. Either gardening, yoga, or quilting has given me tendonitis. I went to a quilt group in Louisville and talked to a lady who was currently working on a Hawaiian quilt hanging. She just happened to also be the person who won best in show for quilts at the KY State Fair in 2009. Anyway, she gave me some pointers on applique. I had originally thought I'd do "back basting," but she convinced me to do the traditional needle turn. She told me about a site on the net called Pacific Rim Quilt Company. I have a preliminary design - palm trees, oak leaves, a big sunflower in the middle, and some plumeria scattered around. I need to tweak the palm trees a little so they look a little more like coconut palms. Also, the sunflower needs to be the right size. But all in all, it's coming along. I haven't had much time lately for quilting because I've been helping out in a lawyer's office part-time. The weather here is still cool, so I've enjoyed sleeping under my string quilt!

Mary, are you going to use the traditional Hawaiian one piece-cut out top? I have a wall hanging size of sea turtles in a soft sage green on white. It's lovely but I don't want to make one!

Yep, that's it. That's why I'm doing a wall hanging istead of a bedquilt!

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress too, Mary. It amazes me how much you are able to do and still have time for quilting.

Still working for a lawyer in the mornings and tutoring in the afternoons. I was curious to see how full time work affected my energy level. I've only had two days that were "full time" and was pretty tired. But when things are paced out I really enjoy being busy.
These days my quilting is limited to Pinterest. At least I'm getting lots and lots of ideas.

what I've seen of Pinterest is interesting - can you post a link to your page?

Hi Sandra, if you ever need inspiration for anything (crafts, recipes, books, gardening), I highly recommend Pinterest. I started using it to organize my quilt pictures, but it has a way of taking over in almost any area where I need some ideas. It's so much better than a Google image search for pictures of quilts because other people have already sifted through all the images on the net, and the good stuff rises to the top. The key to using Pinterest is to find a few people with tastes and interests similar to yours and then follow them. When you see something you like, follow it back to it's original source and that's another gold mine of ideas. My page is: I hope this works. I just go directly to my "feed" when I type in the URL for Pinterest. I use the YorkieMary name on Ebay and other sites since so many variations of Mary are already taken. Pinterest thought my first name was Yorkie and my last name Mary! The people I follow are quite prolific, and I usually don't have to go looking for anything else.

very cute quilt for the new baby. Mary, I started looking at the Terms & conditions on the site's homepage & my eyes glazed over. As they do on any similar page! So I did what I always do when I want info on a product/site etc - searched for 'forum on (x)' & found this www.etsy.com/teams/7722/discussions/discuss/12030272/ A bit too complicated for me sandra

Sandra, that looks very scary! I'm the one who is so paranoid about privacy, etc. Now I'll watch a little more closely all the happenings about copyrights and privacy. I just don't run into much of this on quilting sites.
