Yes, I do like it- it adds not only sparkle, but a sense of play. I'd like to see it within your ribbon border idea. Might you try it out via print/cut/paste? The solid blue idea would enhance the feeling of a lighter, truer blue (depending , of course, on the hue and value selected). Also, I suppose if the ribbon border to which you linked is too heavy you could make it as a slimmer ribbon effect.
It will be a pretty quilt.

Mary- Have you been affected by the recent storms?

storms No.........but the heat wave is record breaking here in the middle of the country. My garden is a loss, the grass is brown and we need rain badly. There were storms yesterday just north of us. It seems that this heat is spawning some pretty bad storms.
Today was a holiday, 4th of July, and I stayed inside all day and tried to get some quilting done. ***This is a quilt thread, ya know.*** I say "tried" because there was a wonderful series on the History Channel on TV about the Revolutionary War, and I found myself glued to the TV all day and just going to the sewing machine during commercials. I consider myself fairly well read and definitely a student of history, but I was amazed at all the info about George Washington and the war that I was pretty much unaware of. I guess with this heat wave, I'm noticing more incidents in history where the heat didn't keep men from fighting battles in woolen uniforms or going to meetings in unairconditioned buildings.
I sat on my front porch tonight to watch the fireworks all around, and I saw the moonrise. It's almost full, and was orange as it first appeared on the horizon.

I'm glad you weren't affected by the storms, but oh...the loss of your garden!
I thought of you yesterday (and of others here who quilt and sew) when I bought several bundles of quilt fabric in stacks of cut pieces and in wholecloth. Some quilter's stash; I couldn't leave it to be thrown about and dirtied in the rummage sale, knowing with what care it had been selected, laundered, ironed, and cut for the planned quilts.

Oh, Mary - I love that!
I have great admiration for our foremothers who didn't have comforts such as air conditioning, and fabulous sewing machines - machines then were more basic. I love My Lovely New Bernina, it's nigh on 13 years old now but until the day I die it will be My Lovely New Bernina. My maternal grandmother had a Singer treadle which is now in my possession.

How very pretty, Mary! The different fabrics balance one another and I like both colors and the play of light within the quilt.

Once again (as Allie Kiwi once said) I've been in a cave for awhile. I've learned a valuable lesson about pictures. DON'T DEPEND ON SOMEONE ELSE TO GET PICTURES FOR YOU! I had some problems with my camera talking to my computer, and after a bit of troubleshooting, I think the cable that connects the camera to the computer is faulty. Sooooooooooooo, I finally did what I should have done a year ago. I bought a memory card and card reader. (actually quite cheap in price.) In the meantime, I didn't take pictures at my son's wedding, Thanksgiving, and Hubby's birthday party. I naively asked others to give me copies of their pictures. Well...........very few pictures and not very good ones at that! Today I'm so happy that I can use my camera, I'm taking pictures of everything! Here's Beth's blue and brown quilt. I'm quilting an elaborate design in the side triangles. It's more intense quilting than in the other parts of the quilt, but I kinda like it. Attachments:
