Sandra, Thank you for the link to the pinking machine. I'd never heard of or seen one before. When you mentioned cutting the silk with Fiskars scissors, I expected to see the kind with the fancy edge such as my daughter uses for scrapbooking. Did you cut at angles and "hand pink" each square? Thanks, rags

my fiskar scissors are meant for use with sore hands & just cut in straight lines.
some of the edges are fraying so I try to treat the strips very gently!

The Silk Quilt - almost done - 4 rows to sew yet, then finish it maybe with very fine iron-on pellon tho very wide seams took care of fraying add very thin wadding make back, probably in silk, definitely with a few silk squares scattered over it! finally cover seams with thin silk ribbon & bind it - sewing on the ribbon will cover the very tiny differences between pieces (invisible in large quilts but very obvious on something so small) & will also serve as quilting around the pieces. easy - hardly any work left!! just gotta get round to it. sandra (whose middle name would be Gunna if she had one!)

Goooooorgeous.......pretty too........ Recently I finished a table runner using fabric that was a gift about 12 years ago, and although I am not confident at machine quilting I quilted holly leaves to break up the background. bronzewombat.blogspot.com/ You have no idea how pleased I am about it!

clever machine quilter!
I recently washed 3 dress fabric lengths - well, the 1993 fabric is a dress fabric - a lovely floral 100% cotton, the other 2 are 100% quilting cotton, also florals. After washing & drying them they sat around for several weeks, & are now back in the (dress) fabric drawer.
I really must get Round-to-It & make something. One day.
I've also washed my 2 very decrepit kitchen rags (aka. oven cloths). They were made by my mother sometime in the mid/later 70's from a raggy dress & old towels & have huge holes in each side. I'll be patching them in the true Sashiko fashion. Japanese peasants back in the olden days had little cloth so stuck a patch on each hole/tear in a garment & held it down with stitches, which led to the elegant indigo-with-white-running-stitches we do today.
They're very sentimental kitchen rags - I was wearing the dress one day in 1972 when my younger sister & I were snapped at Paddy's market & we only knew it appeared in a magazine cos our Aunt bought it! And I can't find the picture, phooey.

The doll quilt is still untouched & we go back to Craft tomorrow after our 4 week break! I did look at it last night & re-pin it, pinning on seam lines to see if I could ease the differences - tho one seam has been pinned as it's too much to ease. my latest decoration, adapted from one I bought

I've just spent a few hours starting 2 new oven cloths! As all my fabrics are Japanese & the old oven rags were made from an Indian dress, patching wouldn't work - so I changed plan. 2 indigo pieces padded with an old hand towel, backed with patches of indigo. One is quilted, & ready for neatening, then edging.

the other sides! Notr much left to do! At least I'll have something finished to show next Craft group. I might even find time to work on the Doll quilt.
