Thank you, rags. I am sorry to read of such family stress and sorrow. Do what is necessary and comforting to you and yours. As Megan says, we'll be here when you have time to return.
Blessings, moi

We made our second trip to Alberta this year. In spite of almost daily rain, we enjoyed our week visiting for several hours each day with our son and his family and attended our grandson's graduation from high school. He and his friends had a memorable day, filled with fun and silliness.
My husband managed fairly well the eight days we were away. He had ample opportunity to rest in our hotel room when we weren't visiting. In spite of that, the day we were leaving to drive the 500 miles home (over two days), he developed a cough which he generously passed on to me. We've been home since July 3rd, pretty much in self-imposed quarantine, being lazy while waiting for the virus to finish its course, and watching the rain that continues to fall at least once a day here.

I'm sorry you and your husband have caught one of the coughs moving around. We share your cough- my husband has been diagnosed with bronchitis- and the sense of relief that one can just stay quiet and watch the rain! Sending hopes for complete recovery for you both!

Thank you, Maeve and Megan.
I hope that you and your husband will recover completely soon, Maeve, that the rest will do you good. I hope that you are getting some rest too? Having an ill spouse can increase the workload of the other.
Lots of rain showers and thunder showers here. Little water each time, just enough to make everything damp again. As soon as it finally dries out, it rains again. So many jobs that I would like to accomplish outside before it gets too cold again, but most require dry conditions. The rain has been a convenient excuse. I'm not sure I'd have the energy to do much yet.
The virus is showing signs of releasing its grip on us. Symptoms are fewer and farther between, but flare up from time to time. My husband still has little energy, he spends most of his time in bed, and much of that, he is actually asleep. I don't know if his body needs the rest to fight the virus, if his kidney function has declined more, (10% to 11% at last check), or if its his way to avoid sadness and grief over his daughter's recent death? Possibly a combination? I do know that his body needs enough exercise to maintain the muscles and strength he has left. He need to be up more and do more, or he will become bedridden. I'm hoping for positive changes soon.

Well the temperature is building thankfully on a small island that usually means morning fog to keep things fresh. Hope the weather wherever you are is pleasantly summery without being dangerous

Megan, our local temperatures and yours seem to have risen one after another. Enjoy the warmth along with the morning fog. We sometimes enjoy morning fog, but I miss the living-by-the-sea fogs of earlier times.
Rags- thanks, we are both much better No, when we are both sick generally I need to keep things working around the house. I did grab some afternoon naps at the worst of it, and that helped. I hope your husband will have felt enough better by now that he is making progress moving around to keep his muscles working.

Maeve and Megan, It sounds as if things are looking better for all of us. Our weather is still quite wet, but not too chilly. The rain keeps things well watered and saves me a lot of time. It's been hard on the bumble bees that are nesting in my carport though. I've been finding one or two, every day, crawling on the floor, seemingly too weak to fly back to their nest. I'm guessing the store of food in the hive is very low? They don't go out when it's raining. I wonder if they will be able to create viable new queens to start up colonies next spring? Struggling to walk I had a earnest talk at my husband about him needing to be more active or the result would be that he'd lose the limited mobility he now has. He was ready to do more. He's been going down to put in a little time each day with the plastic models he loves. That requires him to climb down the stairway and back up again later which is some exercise. He still takes naps, but has been up and wearing proper clothing more often. We both cling greedily to our coughs, but cough less frequently. Recent tests showed that my husband's kidney function is holding, very low, but at least hasn't dropped further in a few months. We were encouraged to see that being away from our routine while being away from home much of June did not seem to have a bad effect. We spent yesterday morning at the hospital Renal Clinic. Mr. told his Nephrologist that, since two two-hour surgeries failed to result in a usable fistula for dialysis, he is not willing to have a third surgery, hoping it might work when the other two didn't. He has given up on the possibility of having dialysis to prolong his life, when his kidney function drops too low. From now on the Renal Clinic will focus on managing his symptoms and making whatever time remains as "normal" as possible. We are still hoping that we can manage his diet and other health concerns well enough to keep him "healthy" for a long time.

Oh Rags my dear you are having a rough time. I'm sorry I am not around much getting ready to go back down and stay with Roy for a bit so I don't have to drive so far if my sister passes, her illness was finally diagnosed as cancer it has spread from the lungs to a couple of other places so they don't think it will be to long.

A wee smile in tough times A friend on fb posted a picture with the words Drink like dwarves smoke like wizards sing like elves and party like hobbits you all know how weird my brain is so I sent the reply below Nae fear the last Dwarfie we had in here got roarin fu, and believe me that takes as much drink as would float a battleship. He was so stocious he challenged Wee Tam the Granite Troll tae a fight. Now when i say Wee Tam that is only relative to his brother Big Tam who has been banned from the pub because when he tried to walk in each step was like an earthquake and all the glasses jumped of the shelf. Wee Tam who is actually a gentle soul most of the time leant over(weel it was mair like bent double) and pit his hand on the dwarf's head, man it was like watching the ballet as the wee beggar twirled and pirouetted arms flying everywhere but reaching nothing as Wee Tam looked at him wie the innocent curiosity of a child opening a music box. Thon daft Wizzard Joe McGuiggan had been tryin to match Toffee Hammer(the dwarf) drink for drink and near burnt the house down when he used his staff to light his cigarette. His beard caught light and as he ran around screaming like a teenage girl who sees the latest pop idol he managed to set light to three tablecloths(whit this is a posh hoose ah'll hiv ye ken) and the pair of velvet curtains Aggie the barmaid had insisted be hung at the window. Jehosephat Flett the elf thought it would be a good idea to serenade big Aggie but wie a voice like a crow wie laryngitis he didny impress her over much and she threw him oot the said curtained window(Must remember to get the joiner to come and rebuild it tomorrow she has never mastered the instruction "first open widow then throw oot the garbage" And as for they hobbits and their idea o a party weel I hear Dropshot Snuff will be allowed out of hospital in a few days once the swelling round his black eye subsides. He was lucky he just telt Aggie she was bonny, his pal Slumber MacMonagle tried to gie her a kiss. The watch say he landed three parishes away but its ok he landed in Big Tams farm midden.
