A light dusting of snow fell Thursday. A little more was added tonight. I was hoping to have time to weed/thin plants in my flower beds and mow the lawns one more time but the ground is frozen solid and it's not likely that the weather will warm much now until spring. If you are wondering why there is a watering can hanging in a tree, it's a crow-proof squirrel feeder. I had been putting peanuts and sunflower seeds into the hanging planter above it. Lately the crows had been coming as soon as I put them there and would fly away with two peanuts at a time. The poor squirrel had a hard time getting any. As I was about to throw a broken watering can into the trash, I got the idea to try using it. So far the crows have not bothered with it. rags

It's a clever person who can outsmart crows! We're working steadily to get greenhouse supplies, lumber, etc. under cover before Sandy-the-Storm reaches us...then will come the rush before snow and hard freeze!

I hope that you're able to get everything covered and that the storm passes you by.

I apologize, I haven't been posting updates in this thread and already three and three quarter months of winter have passed by. (Yay!) This was my "Beginning of February" shot, Feb. 3rd After a few days above freezing by diffuse, on Flickr We've has more snow and cold since then, of course. The city crews arrived here yesterday afternoon just as I was preparing to leave for a medical appointment. Grader passing by as a loader scoops snow by diffuse, on Flickr The grader scraped ice from the road and piled it as a thick wall across my driveway. Grader building a wall of road ice. by diffuse, on Flickr A loader cleared away almost enough of the barrier for me to escape to my appointment. Almost enough room to get out by diffuse, on Flickr I had to get a shovel and quickly move about three feet more to open a wide enough space to drive my car through, (thereby reassuring myself that there really is nothing wrong with my heart. ;D) After I left, a loader came along, scooped up the rest of the barrier and deposited it on top of the huge pile at the end of our driveway. rags

Sandra, The temperatures sounds ideal there now. We will coax the sun back to our hemisphere soon, though and we'll have warmer days soon. rags
