Thanks, maeve. Good to know how to make it bloom if it doesn't do it on its own.
I don't have any Christmas cactus anymore. When I had them, they seemed to manage to figure out to bloom all on their own. They bloomed in November, though, not December.

Mine bloom more than once a year, and when I follow (without becoming obsessive!) the strategy in the link, I can encourage them to bloom when desired. Such jungle-plant sorts want to grow and bloom anyway, so a nudge of conditions is sufficient. One of the more accurate Wiki pages I've seen is full of good information, including nomenclature, care, and conditions in the wilds of Brazil: Schlumbergera

my zygocatus were flowering in May-July & again in September & November a few pretty pics - apricot & white in September, & red buds in May
