Oh, Sandra, it's so cute! I wonder how the mother managed to leave it there?

How cunning is that? I called my husband over to see the echidna swim. Thank you, Sandra.

I liked the way it tested the water, sensible animal.
I once saw a dog not test the water - it came bounding down a hill, effortlessly jumping over several low fences then crossed the road & jumped over the sea wall!
All of us who were passing by looked at it swimming around (it was probably puzzled) & my very tall brother climbed over & passed it back (it was a large dog) then climbed back. Fortunately the water level was only about 8-10 feet below the road. Unfortunately this was way before mobile phones & Youtube or I could have probably directed you to a video record of the event!
Many years later he did a similar rescue when his enthusiastic & equally large dog left the canal path in a park & galloped down the concrete slope of a canal & couldn't get back. (Most canals have straight sides, this was a V shaped cut, I've never seen one like it)

Sandra, Thank you for sharing the echidna links. What a unique and interesting little critter.

Here's a picture of the guys I often see at sunset on my daily walk at Nazareth near my house. I sure hope they aren't the ones that visited my garden last night! Attachments:

A herd of deer is lovely to look at but can be persistently destructive when there are gardens nearby. I hope that you won't have any (more?) visits from them.
